New Player Guide

Everything you need to know to begin your adventure

Welcome to Temuair! This guide will introduce the main systems of Legends: Age of Chaos with a special focus on the first 11 levels of the game.

Game Progression

As you progress, you'll constantly be faced with new challenges, quests, and hunting areas that will push you to improve.

  • You'll start off as a frail level 1 peasant with limited abilities.
  • Shortly after completing the tutorial, you'll be able to select a path. This is a major decision and dramatically affects your character's strengths and weaknesses.
  • You'll gain experience by hunting, completing quests, and participating in other events like arena competitions, religious ceremonies, and community events. You'll learn new skills and spells, acquire new weapons and equipment, and unlock new hunting areas as you progress.
  • When you reach level 41, you'll be able to select a specialization within your path that will further define your character's abilities and playstyle. Unlike your path, you can change your specialization.
  • Once you reach level 99 you can start spending hard-earned experience on increasing your health, mana and stats, with an eventual goal of becoming a Master of your path. Masters have access to extremely powerful abilities, weapons, and armors.
    • Master weapons and armor can be empowered. Empowered equipment is significantly more powerful than regular equipment and doesn't break on death.
  • As your power increases, you'll eventually be able to attempt raids, which drop the most powerful secondary equipment available in the game today.

Completing the Tutorial

The tutorial teaches you some of the basic controls and mechanics of the game, so it's important to pay attention and follow along carefully.

Once you complete it, you'll be teleported to the Mileth Inn, which is one of the common home locations in Temuair. Make sure to speak to the innkeeper to receive a special gift.

Your next goal will be to select your path, which you'll do at the Temple of Choosing in Mileth. You may need to do a little hunting to gain some experience first, which you can either do in the Mileth Crypt or Porte Forest. You should read about the different paths available before making your decision; you cannot change your path and it will determine the playstyle and abilities of your character.

Learning New Abilities

Once you select your path, you may be able to learn some new abilities and spells that are unique to that path. These abilities can greatly enhance your effectiveness in combat and other aspects of the game.

There are two types of abilities: skills (S panel) and spells (D panel). Skills are more common among melee classes and are usually cooldown-based, while spells are more common among ranged classes and often have a channeling time and a mana cost.

Most abilities are learned from mundanes, and can be learned from the "Learn Skill" or "Learn Spell" dialog options. Acquiring new abilities often requires:

  • Meeting certain stat requirements
  • Gathering certain items and/or gold
  • Learning prerequisite abilities

Review the ability list for your path and/or specialization to learn more about the requirements for each ability.

Hunting

Hunting is the primary way to gain experience and level up your character. There are a variety of hunting areas in Legends, and its important to choose one that's appropriate for your character's (and group's) level.

At lower levels, the three most common hunting areas are:

  • Mileth Crypt: A beginner-friendly area located on the eastern edge of Mileth. The upper levels are inhabited by rats, spiders, and other low-level creatures, though difficult increases significantly at lower levels.
  • Porte Forest: A forested area outside of Suomi that is more dangerous than the Mileth Crypt but offers better experience.
  • East Woodlands: Accessible via the world map, the lower-level areas are home to snakes, wasps, wolves, and kobolds.

When possible, find a group to hunt with; Legends' class system is calibrated around the idea of every path having strengths that complement others. Joining a group with members from other paths will significantly increase your effectiveness and enjoyment of the game. The easiest way to find a group is the in-game player list or on Discord.

Stats

Your character has a variety of stats that affect their performance in combat and other aspects of the game. Understanding these stats is key to building an effective character.

Core Stats

These are stats that players can choose to increase as their character levels up. Primary stats can reach a maximum of 140, and secondary stats can reach a maximum of 100.

Skulling and Death

Warning
Death is intentionally designed to have significant consequences in Legends relative to most other MMOs. Avoid it whenever possible!

When you run out of health, you become unconscious ("skulled") and unable to move until another player rescues you. If you're skulled for 15 seconds without being rescued, you will die.

The most common way to rescue a skulled player is to use a Beothaich Deum, which is a red potion specifically crafted for this purpose. There are also certain skills and spells that revive players, such as warriors' Rescue skill and priests' aiseirighadh spell.

If you become skulled, others Aislings in your group can try to rescue you. If you're alone or unable to be rescued, it's common practice to log out as quickly as possible and request a rescue in Discord - other players will often come to your aid if they're available. The 15-second death timer pauses while you're logged out.

If your death timer expires, you will die and be sent to the underworld. Your gold and most of your items will be ripped from your body and left in the location where you died; you can walk back to your death site to recover them. Certain items are perishable and will be destroyed on death. You'll also receive a Scar of Sgrios (visible on your legend) and lose some experience.
